At least 340 Polish Jews were murdered by at least 40 Polish collaborators under the authority of at least 8 Nazi German personnel.

Massakern, som var hemsk i sig, behöver inte kryddas med överdrifter. I byn Jedwabne och på flera andra orter torterades och dödades den judiska befolkningen, men först sjuttio år senare har man börjat acceptera att det var polackerna själva som utförde gärningarna. I vissa fall drev tyska soldater på, men till exempel i Jedwabne var det byborna själva som verkställde avrättningen.
